Panthers Fall to Bowdoin in Straight Sets

The Middlebury volleyball team eclipsed 20 points in the first and third sets but ultimately fell to Bowdoin 3-0 on Friday evening in Pepin Gymnasium.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Knotted at 7-7 in the first set, Skye LaMendola sparked a 4-0 Polar Bear spurt with her second kill of the initial session to build an 11-7 edge. Molly Harrison tallied two accurate attacks to help the Panthers take four of the next six, bringing the hosts within two at 13-11.
  • Bowdoin mirrored the 4-2 run, powered by two scoring swings from LaMendola, to lead 17-13. Molly MacDonald and Caroline Byrne joined the kill column amidst a 6-3 Middlebury surge to slice the margin to 20-19.
  • The Polar Bears claimed five of the final seven points to claim the opening stanza, 25-21. Zoe Ryu landed a pair of accurate attacks in the sequence.
  • Ryu powered the visitors early in the second frame, contributing four scoring swings to headline a 9-3 Bowdoin burst. Gabby Pribisich posted two kills over a five-point stretch to cut the deficit to 10-7.
  • The Polar Bears countered with an 11-3 spurt to lead 21-10, with LaMendola and Alison Smith each adding four accurate attacks in the spell. A split of the final eight points secured a 25-14 decision for the guests.
  • Bowdoin raced ahead in the third set with four different players tallying a scoring swing to lead 9-3. Harrison and Pribisich fired two kills apiece to drive a 9-2 stretch and pull ahead by one (12-11).
  • The Polar Bears won five of the ensuing seven points before the battle began late in the set. Neither side led by more than three points, dividing the final 18 points evenly. LaMendola and Smith combined for six accurate attacks in the sequence, with Smith dealing the final kill to secure the set (25-23) and the match.
NOTES
  • Harrison tallied 10 kills, registering double-digit kills for the 12th time in her last 13 outings.
  • Campbell Keller logged three service aces, marking her seventh match with multiple aces this season.
  • The programs competed for the 41st time with Middlebury owning a 28-13 advantage in the all-time series.
