The Middlebury volleyball team played for the first time in Pepin Gymnasium in nearly a month, securing a 3-0 sweep of Union on Wednesday evening.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Owning a narrow 5-4 edge in the opening set, the hosts uncorked a 12-3 run, headlined by four scoring swings from Gabby Pribisich, to build a 17-7 lead.
- The Garnet Chargers responded by claiming nine of the next 13 points, slicing the margin to 21-16. Shannon McGrath tallied five kills in the spurt.
- Pribisich and Molly MacDonald recorded accurate attacks to bring the Panthers a point away from the win. Union parried with four consecutive points, but a service error secured the frame for Middlebury (25-20).
- Trailing 5-3 in the second stanza, Molly Harrison powered a 4-0 stint with two scoring swings to push Middlebury ahead 7-5. The Garnet Chargers answered with a 10-4 run to open a 15-11 advantage.
- The Panthers claimed 14 of the final 19 points to add a second-set triumph by an identical 25-20 tally. Pribisich and Harrison combined for five kills, while Campbell Keller logged three service aces to headline the sequence.
- Middlebury breezed to a 15-6 lead in the final session, led by three accurate attacks each from Harrison and Caroline Byrne. The sides traded the ensuing 10 points to establish a 20-11 score in favor of the hosts.
- Union battled back to within three (23-20) behind a 9-3 spurt punctuated by three-straight scoring swings from Shea Ringel.
- MacDonald and Ava Tuccio logged kills in the final three points to finalize the stanza (25-21) and the match.
