Men’s Basketball Downed By #9 Wesleyan

The Middlebury men's basketball team fell 89-63 to #9 Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon in Connecticut. 
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Cardinals started the first stanza with a 17-3 run spanning 6:38 of action. The spurt was sparked by a three-pointer from Fritz Hauser.
  • Trailing 32-6 with 6:43 remaining, the Panthers converted eight-consecutive free throws to cut the lead to 20 (34-14). Tristan Joseph went 4-for-4 at the charity stripe during the span.
  • With time expiring in the half, Nicky Johnson made a buzzer-beating layup to send the squads into the locker rooms with Wesleyan up 37-20.
  • The first 5:21 of the second half was a back-and-forth affair before Kuba Cwalina cut the Middlebury deficit to 18 (53-35) with a layup at the 14:26 mark
  • The Cardinals answered with a 13-4 run spanning the next three and a half minutes, highlighted by four points from Jackson Cormier. 
  • Behind 65-39 with 11:53 to go, the Panthers had an 8-4 spurt capped by a charity toss from Joseph. 
  • The Wesleyan advantage was too much for Middlebury to overcome late in the contest as the Cardinals secured the 89-63 triumph.
 
NOTES
  • Oliver Urena picked up a season-high six points. 
  • The programs met for the 74th time with Wesleyan holding a 42-32 edge in the all-time series.
The Panthers return home on Friday when they host Connecticut College at 7:00 p.m.
