The top-ranked Middlebury women's ice hockey team tallied its fifth shutout of the season, as the Panthers blanked Connecticut College on Friday evening 5-0.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Middlebury took advantage of the first power play of the evening, scoring with 4:11 expired. Sabrina Kim sent the puck from behind the goal to Kate Flynn who one-timed her bid into the net from the doorstep for the early 1-0 edge.
- The Panthers peppered Camel netminder Devon Galizio, with a quality chance coming at the 8:12 mark after a flurry of shots. Kylie Quinlan tried to stuff the puck past a sprawling Galizio, but her trio of close-range bids were thwarted.
- Middlebury doubled its lead nearly four minutes later when Quinlan wrapped around the goal and snuck the puck past Galizio for the 2-0 edge.
- With 1:52 remaining, the Panthers increased their advantage to 3-0. Flynn received a pass on the left dot and rifled the puck, tucking it under the crossbar for her second of the game.
- Middlebury extended the lead to 4-0 with 4:22 elapsed in the middle frame. Jordan Hower redirected a blast by Kim from the right faceoff circle for a commanding advantage.
- Connecticut College looked to get on the scoreboard with just 27 ticks off the clock in the final period, but Caitlin Pierce's shot skidded just wide of the right post.
- Hower tacked on a short-handed tally midway through the stanza. The Panther stole the puck and skated past a pair of Camel defenders before slipping her shot past Galizio for the 5-0 triumph.
