Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

#7 Women’s Soccer Takes Down Connecticut College 2-0

The seventh-ranked Middlebury women's soccer team netted a goal 13 minutes into Saturday's action and added another late in the second half to secure a 2-0 triumph over Connecticut College.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Panthers brought some early pressure in the sixth minute. Mia Feldman settled a ball and fired an attempt just outside the goalie box that sailed high to the left.
  • Middlebury struck gold with 12:38 elapsed. Abby Ward flew by a Camel defender down the left sideline before sending a cross into the box. Gigi Day found some daylight and skipped Ward's pass into the bottom-left corner of the net past goalie Ella Kahrl for a 1-0 lead.
  • Roshann Purcell almost joined the stat sheet in the 23rd minute with a beautiful free kick that sailed into traffic. Kahrl had to come off her line and rise above to snag the ball out of the air to keep it a one-goal deficit.
  • Fanny Lodge had the final attempt late in the opening half, racing past a Connecticut College defender on a through ball from Kjersti Mortiz. The Panthers were whistled for offsides to keep the score 1-0 heading into halftime.
  • Middlebury pressured immediately out of the break with consecutive chances about three minutes apart. Chloe Swindle snuck past two defenders and fired a screamer that Kahrl covered before Lodge settled a bouncing ball and shot, only to be turned away by another Kahrl save down the middle.
  • The Panthers found the back of the net again for a 2-0 lead with 73:23 elapsed. Day fired a shot that a Camel defender blocked away from the net. Ward corralled the loose ball near the top-left corner of the box and cut inside a defender, flicking a shot that sailed into the bottom-right corner for her third goal of the season.
  • Emmy Christopher tried her luck on the net with chances in the 81st and 83rd minutes. Her first attempt was blocked out of harm's way while the second sailed high to the right.
  • Sophia Cole had the final opportunity seconds later, driving into the teeth of the defense and firing an attempt that ricocheted off the crossbar and down but did not go over the line.
NOTES
  • Day netted her first goal of the season in Saturday's triumph.
  • Ward's three-point performance (1G, 1A) is her first of the campaign and third in a Panthers uniform.
  • Middlebury and Connecticut College squared off for the 27th time. The Panthers hold a 17-7-3 advantage in the all-time series and have won three out of the last four matchups.
Middlebury hits the road for a conference matchup against Bowdoin on Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
