#10 Women’s Tennis Races Past Colby-Sawyer In NCAA Tournament Opening Round

The 10th-ranked Middlebury women's tennis did not relinquish a single game in doubles action to take a 3-0 lead and never looked back, racing to a 5-0 sweep over Colby-Sawyer in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • The tandem of Claudia Miller and Gena Huang got things going at #2, dispatching their opponents by an 8-0 scoreline to give the Panthers the 1-0 edge. 
  • The duos of Sahana Raman and Amy Delman (#1) and Nina Farhat and Lulu Wu (#3) followed suit just a few minutes later, cruising to 8-0 victories to extend the Middlebury lead to 3-0.
  • Miller carried her momentum into singles action and kept her opponent off the board, easing to a straight-set 6-0, 6-0 win in the third spot. 
  • Moments after, Delman clinched the match, completing the 5-0 sweep with 6-0 scores in each of her sets for the triumph at #4. 
  • The Panthers allowed just three total games during the win.
NOTES
  • At the time of the clinching point, all four Panthers led in their respective matches. 
  • In the top spot, Raman earned a 6-1 triumph in the opening set and held a 1-0 lead in the second.
  • Anna Lardner (#6) and Charlotte McCann (#5) each claimed a 6-0 win in their first set and held 5-0 and 3-0 advantages in the second set, respectively. 
  • In the second spot, Wu was ahead 5-2 in the opener.
  • Delman's singles triumph was the 45th of her career, while Miller's win in individual action was her 50th in the navy and white.
  • Middlebury and Colby-Sawyer met for the 11th time in a series that began in 1975. With the win, the Panthers remain undefeated against the Chargers.
Middlebury advances to the second round of the NCAA Tournament and will take on The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) on Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
