Women’s Lacrosse Earns Top Seed In NESCAC Tournament For Sixth-Straight Season

The Panthers will host Amherst in a NESCAC Quarterfinal game on Saturday.
The #1 Middlebury women's lacrosse team has earned the top seed in the NESCAC Tournament for the sixth-straight season. The Panthers will host #13/eighth-seeded Amherst on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. on Peter Kohn Field. 
 
ABOUT MIDDLEBURY
  • Middlebury is one of just three teams to qualify for all 22 championships and has earned the top seed for the 14th time in program history.
  • The Panthers are looking for their 12th conference crown and second in a row.
  • The program posted its third-straight unbeaten NESCAC regular season, owning a 30-0 mark over the last three campaigns. 
  • Middlebury has won 43-consecutive games and 22 straight on Peter Kohn Field. The last loss came in the 2022 conference championship at home.
  • The Panthers own 35 victories (35-10) during NESCAC Tournament action, the most among league foes.
  • Middlebury ranks second in the NESCAC in goals per game (15.87), assists per game (6.33), points per game (22.20) and player-up markers per contest (2.13).  
PANTHERS TO WATCH
  • Throughout the season, Susan Rowley and Hope Shue have traded the lead for most goals on the team and in the NESCAC. Heading into the weekend, Shue tops the charts at 52, with Rowley right behind with 51 tallies. Shue and Rowley rank third and fifth, respectively, in the conference with 68 and 61 points apiece. 
  • Shue has solidified her name in the career records books this season, moving into third place with 191 career markers, while settling into a tie for seventh with 234 career points. 
  • All-around threat Caroline Adams stormed onto the scene this spring, pacing the NESCAC with 8.00 draw control wins per game. The Panther is third in program history with 112 draws this year, while ranking fourth in career draw controls with 196. Adams is third on the team with 45 points (27G, 18A), while also scooping up 13 groundballs this season.
  • Kylie Wilson paces the squad and ranks in the top-10 spots in the conference with 31 rollers. She is tied with Haley Hamilton for the team lead in caused turnovers, as both Panthers have forced 18 this year.
  • In goal, Gina Driscoll has started in 14 contests and is second in the conference to teammate Elizabeth Savage with a 6.57 goals against average (GAA). Savage owns the top GAA in the NESCAC at 5.60, having played in 10 contests and earning two wins in goal, including the last pair of contests. 
ABOUT AMHERST
  • Amherst was one of three teams to finish the regular season with a 4-6 conference mark but earned the eighth seed after tiebreakers were completed. 
  • The Mammoths have qualified for all 22 tournaments and are making their third-straight appearance.
  • Amherst is searching for the program's first NESCAC Title, having advanced to the championship contest six times, most recently in 2014. 
MAMMOTHS TO WATCH
  • Mia Raven leads a balanced offensive group that features five players with 35 or more points. Raven paces the team in points (40) and free-position goals (nine), while ranking second in assists (16). Raven has been an all-around player on both ends of the field, sitting atop the Mammoths in draw controls (85), caused turnovers (30), and groundballs (29). Raven is second in the NESCAC in caused turnovers and draw controls, while her groundball total is fourth.
  • Bridget Finley has scored a squad-best 38 times, including eight from the free-position arc, while Clara Sosa (27G, 11A) has tailled 38 points.
  • Also contributing to the attack with 35 points apiece are Sofia Guttmann and Kate Becker. Guttmann has recorded 27 goals, including eight free-position markers, while Kate Becker has a team-high 17 assists to go along with 18 goals.
  • Brynn Corpi and Grace Wykoff are cogs in the Amherst defense. Corpi has scooped up 27 rollers and has 15 caused turnovers, while Wykoff has collected 12 groundballs and posted nine caused turnovers.
  • In front of the Mammoth net, Jessye Salmon has seen a majority of the playing time. She ranks second in the NESCAC in both saves with 107 saves and saves per contest at 7.13.
SERIES HISTORY 
  • Middlebury and Amherst play for the 60th time with the Panthers holding a decisive 52-7 advantage in the all-time series.
  • The programs met in the opening game this season with Middlebury utilizing runs of 6-0 and 8-0 on its way to a 16-5 win in Massachusetts.
  • The Panthers have an unbeaten 11-0 mark against the Mammoths in NESCAC Tournament play, including three wins in the quarterfinal round.   
TOURNAMENT INFORMATION
  • The top-eight teams in the conference will qualify for the NESCAC Women's Lacrosse Championship. Quarterfinal games will be conducted on Saturday, April 27 with the semifinals and championship games conducted on Saturday, May 4 and Sunday, May 5, respectively. The tournament champion will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship.
