Middlebury Tops Skidmore In Doubleheader Action

The Middlebury softball team downed Skidmore 5-0 in the opening game of the day, and outlasted the Thoroughbreds 3-2 in the nightcap.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Panthers got out to a quick start, taking a 1-0 edge in their first at-bat. Kristyn Carroll led off with a double, followed by singles from McKenna Lont and Megan Fox to load the bases. A base-hit by Caitlin Viola allowed Lont to scamper home for the early lead.
  • In the top of the fifth, Carroll singled, stole second and third and later scored on a base-hit from Fox for the 2-0 advantage.
  • Middlebury secured the win during the seventh inning. Carroll singled and took advantage of a pair of Thoroughbred miscues to come around to score, before a sacrifice fly by Fox brought Lont across the plate. Later in the inning with two outs, Viola touched home on a single from Skylar Wong for the 5-0 victory.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Panthers jumped on the scoreboard in the first, with Fox's sacrifice fly bringing Carroll home for the 1-0 lead.
  • In the second, Samantha Hausman singled, advanced to second on a wild pitch and later came around to score when Wong blasted a triple down the right field line for the 2-0 advantage.
  • Skidmore cut the deficit in half (2-1) in the third. Grace O'Connell singled, stole second, advanced to third on a base-hit from Elle Harrison and scored on the same play due to a Panther error.
  • In the bottom of the sixth, Harrison crossed home when Claire Stone drove the ball up the middle, knotting the contest 2-2.
  • With runners on first and second in the seventh, a throwing error and flyout allowed Cece Ziegler to come home for the 3-2 win.
NOTES
