#17 Men’s Lacrosse Dominates Second Half To Earn 15-7 Victory Over Trinity In Program’s 1,000th Game

Trailing 7-3 at halftime, the 17th-ranked Middlebury men's lacrosse team tallied 12-consecutive goals to earn a 15-7 victory on Saturday night in the program's 1,000th game.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Bantams owned the majority of the opening quarter, scoring three unanswered goals over the first 7:53 to move into a 3-0 lead.
  • With 2:33 remaining in the first stanza, the Panthers got on the board. Jake Peluso cut inside and ripped a sidearm shot into the far right netting to cut the deficit to two (3-1) heading into the second quarter.
  • The squads traded tallies over the opening 2:24 of the second frame as Jon Krikorian and Patrick Jamin each found the back of the net to make it 4-2.
  • Trinity extended its lead to four (6-2) on markers by Cam Elenteny and Davis Burleson over the next 7:05.
  • With 5:53 remaining in the first half, Russell Thorndike pulled Middlebury to within three as he fired a shot that tucked just underneath the crossbar to make it 6-3.
  • The Bantams ended the second quarter on the front foot as Ben Wong tucked a close-range effort into the bottom right corner to give the hosts a 7-3 lead at the halftime break.
  • The Panthers came out of the intermission hot and dominated the third quarter, scoring four unanswered goals to knot the contest at 7-7. With 8:20 to go, Thorndike took a pass from Tom Conley and ripped a shot into the top-right corner to even the game heading into the final frame.
  • Middlebury did not let up in the fourth quarter. Conley gave the visitors their first lead of the game with a long-distance strike to bring the score to 8-7 with 3:06 elapsed. 
  • Logan White followed with two-consecutive tallies over the next 1:18 to push the advantage to three (10-7).
  • The Panthers continued to pull away. With 6:35 to go, Will Zink found a cutting William Ryan who bounced his shot into the goal to make it 11-7.
  • With 5:16 left, Billy Curtis caused a turnover in the offensive end. Ryan scooped up the loose ball and rifled his shot past Bantam goalie Jordan Opdahl for the 12-7 advantage.
  • Ryan found the back of the net with 2:37 remaining as he beat Opdahl from close-range, before Will Zink and Thorndike each scored to lock up the 15-7 win for the Panthers.
NOTES
  • With three assists in today's victory, Curtis moved into fifth in Middlebury's career record books with 95 helpers.
  • Conley recorded four points during tonight's win to surpass the 100 career point plateau
  • Hayden Kern was strong in the victory, denying 13 shots.
  • The programs played for the 37th time with the Panthers holding a 33-4 advantage in the all-time series.
Middlebury closes the regular season with a matchup against Williams on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m.
