Women’s Track & Field Wins Carla Coffey Invitational

Madeline Sauders won the discus with a school record toss.
The Middlebury women's track and field claimed the Carla Coffey Invitational team title, accumulating 175 points to outdistance a field of 11 other teams. Bowdoin earned the runner-up spot with 142 points, while Williams completed the top-three spots with 102 points. Madeline Sauders broke the school record in the discus, tossing the implement 41.57-meters.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • Jaxon Palmer was a two-time event champion. The Panther won the javelin throw with a toss of 37.34 meters and claimed the hammer title at 45.22m. 
  • Lilly Wurtz led a trio of Middlebury competitors who recorded the top-three spots in the shot put. Wurtz recorded a winning distance of 12.26m, while Julia Tulimieri was second at 12.08m and Mary Scott Robinson finished third with a heave of 11.90m.
  • Audrey MacLean led the field to the line in the 3,000 steeplechase. She posted a winning effort of 10:45.39, bettering her previous best by 5.35 seconds. Teammate Tatum Peskin was second in the event with a clocking of 11:16.50.
  • Other event wins came from Macy Daggitt in the long jump (5.68m), Sauders during the discus with a throw of 41.57m and Ciara Dale with a victorious time of 1:04.35 in the 400 hurdles.
  • Daggitt led three Panthers who earned top-five efforts in the 100. Daggitt earned the silver with a time of 12.56, while Melissa White was fourth with a time of 12.71 and Katie Bruno was fifth with a clocking of 12.81.
  • In the pole vault competition, Zoe Wang cleared the bar with a runner-up height of 3.70m.
  • The 4x100 relay team of Bruno, Michelle Louie, White and Daggitt were third with a time of 47.86, while Lily Bulczynksi matched that finish in the 800 crossing the line in 2:24.50.
  • Additional third-place efforts came from Anna Krouse in the 400 (59.81) and Louie during the 200 (25.86). 
  • Top-five results came from Reilly Isler who was fourth in the javelin (36.02m), Gabriella Gerig who was fifth in the high jump (1.47m) and Victoria Fawcett during the 1,500 (4:52.20) and White with a clocking of 26.08 in the 200.
NOTES
  • Sauder's school record in the discus erased the previous mark of 40.99 which stood since 2002.
  • MacLean's triumph in the 3,000 steeplechase was her second in as many tries this season.
  • During their respective victories, MacLean, Palmer, Wurtz, Daggitt and Sauders each posted career-best efforts.
Middlebury returns to competition next Saturday when it hosts the Middlebury Invitational.
