#4 Women’s Tennis Blanks Bates In Spring Opener

The fourth-ranked Middlebury women's tennis team blanked Bates 9-0 to open the spring season at home. 
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Panthers came out strong, grabbing all three points in doubles action.
  • Amy Delman and Sahana Raman picked up where they left off in the fall, cruising to an 8-0 victory at #1.
  • At #2, Gena Huang and Claudia Miller dropped just one game to earn an 8-1 triumph.
  • In the third slot, tandem Ananya Annapantula and Nina Farhat posted an 8-1 victory and put Middlebury up 3-0 heading into singles play.
  • In the fourth slot, Lulu Wu cruised past her opponent with a straight-set sweep (6-0, 6-1).
  • Huang clinched the match for the Panthers with a 6-0, 6-4 win at #5. 
  • At #6, Anna Lardner made it 6-0 with identical scores of 6-4, 6-4. 
  • Miller claimed a 6-3, 6-4 victory in the second spot, while Delman made it 8-0 with a 6-1, 6-1 sweep at #3.
  • Raman won the opening set in the top spot 7-5 before falling by a 6-2 score in set two. The Panther completed the sweep, recording a 10-4 triumph in the superbreaker for the 9-0 victory. 
NOTES
  • Miller posted her 40th career victory, while Delman and Huang each earned their 35th career singles win.
  • Middlebury and Bates played for the 35th time with the Panthers improving to 34-1.
Middlebury continues competition on Sunday, hosting #20 Tufts at 10:00 a.m.
