#4 Middlebury Cruises Past #20 Tufts 7-2

The fourth-ranked Middlebury women's tennis team eased past #20 Tufts by a score of 7-2 to pick up its second win in as many days.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Panthers grabbed a 2-0 advantage to start the day. In doubles play, Amy Delman and Sahana Raman earned an 8-4 victory at #1, while Ananya Annapantula and Nina Farhat tallied an 8-5 win in the third slot.
  • The final doubles point came down to a tiebreaker at #2. Tandem Stephanie Woodbury and Natalie Hu edged Gena Huang and Claudia Miller 7-5 to make it 2-1 heading into singles action.
  • Huang cruised to a straight-set victory (6-2, 6-1) in the fifth spot, before Raman claimed a 6-4, 6-3 win at #1.
  • Clinching the match for Middlebury was Anna Lardner in the sixth slot. Lardner edged her opponent 7-5 in the first set, before triumphing 6-1 in the second.
  • In a bout that lasted just over two hours, Delman came out on top at #3, claiming a three-set win (6-3, 2-6, 6-2). 
  • The Jumbos made it 6-2 with a tightly contested point in the second spot. Miller won the opener 6-4, but fell 6-3 in the second to force a tiebreaker. Tufts' Rebecca Lim came out on top 10-7.
  • Lulu Wu grabbed the last point of the day with a close victory (7-6(5), 7-5) at #4, bringing the final score to 7-2. 
NOTES
  • The teams met for the 38th time with the Panthers taking a 19-18-1 edge in the series.
  • Lardner's win was the 25th of her career, as she improves to 10-1 on the year, while extending her unbeaten streak to six. 
The Panthers travel to California for spring break next weekend, beginning the trip with a 12:00 p.m. match against #7 Emory on the campus of the University of Redlands.
