The #4 Middlebury women's tennis team took a 2-1 edge in doubles play, but #7 Emory outlasted the Panthers in singles to earn the 6-3 win.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Tandem Gena Huang and Claudia Miller grabbed the first point of the day, topping Eliza McPherron and Iris Berman 8-2 in the second spot.
- The Eagles leveled the match at 1-1 with an 8-4 victory at #1.
- In the third slot, duo Nathalie van der Reis and Lulu Wu earned an 8-5 triumph to give the Panthers a 2-1 edge heading into singles action.
- Emory responded, taking three straight-set victories at #2, #5 and #6 to move into a4-2 lead.
- Wu won both of her sets by 6-4 scores in the fourth spot to cut the deficit to one (4-3), but it wasn't enough.
- Ilayda Baykan edged Amy Delman in a tiebreaker to start the opening set, before claiming a 6-4 win at #3 to clinch the match.
- Emory secured the final point of the day with a straight-set win in the top spot for the 6-3 victory.
NOTES
- The teams met for the 15th time, with the Eagles claiming their first triumph over the Panthers since 2018.
- Wu is 3-0 in the fourth spot this spring and 10-2 overall this year.
