#6 Men’s Lacrosse Falls 16-10 At #9 Bowdoin

The sixth-ranked Middlebury men's lacrosse team fell 16-10 to ninth-ranked Bowdoin on Saturday afternoon.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Polar Bears jumped out to a 3-0 lead over the opening 3:51 of action with two goals from Will Byrne and a marker by Oliver Bernstein.
  • The Panthers got on the board with 4:45 elapsed. Patrick Jamin dodged a defender and bounced a shot past Bowdoin goalie Robert Hobbs and into the bottom corner to make it 3-1.
  • The Polar Bears responded with a goal with 6:34 remaining. Bernstein fired a low shot from the left angle to make it 4-1 after one quarter of action.
  • Middlebury made it 4-2 with 1:48 gone by in the second stanza on the player-up advantage. Jamin fed William Ryan, who ripped a sidearm shot into the top left corner.
  • Bowdoin responded with a marker at the 10:54 mark. Patrick Fitzgerald converted on a long pole goal from distance to increase the lead to three (5-2).
  • Jake Peluso made it 5-3 at the 8:22 mark, cutting inside and ripping a shot into the bottom-left corner, but Fitzgerald answered with his second tally of the game to keep it a three-goal contest (6-3) with 7:53 left in the first half. 
  • With 1:09 to go in the stanza, Billy Curtis tallied a marker from close-range to pull the Panthers to within two (6-4) heading into the halftime break.
  • Jed Hoggard restored Bowdoin's three-goal lead (7-4), running the length of the field before flipping a bouncing shot past Middlebury goalie Hayden Kern with 2:56 elapsed in the third frame.
  • The Polar Bears continued to pull away, scoring the next four goals to move into a 11-4 advantage.
  • Russell Thorndike cut the deficit to 11-5 with a goal at the 6:16 mark, but Bowdoin answered with 5:47 remaining. 
  • Thorndike continued to battle, scoring again from the left side with 5:10 to go, before completing his hat trick one minute later to pull the visitors within five (12-7).
  • With 1:31 left in the third quarter, Bowdoin increased its edge to 13-7 on a goal by Sam Raye-Steiner.
  • The Panthers dominated the opening five minutes of the final frame, cutting the deficit to four (13-9) on a pair of goals by Tom Conley and J.D. Farkas with 10:36 remaining.
  • With 4:58 left in the game, Curtis found the back of the net following a nifty pass from Jamin to make it 13-10.
  • That was as close as Middlebury would get as the Polar Bears rattled off three unanswered goals to claim the 16-10 win.
NOTES
  • Farkas and Peluso each tallied their first goals of the season during today's game.
  • The programs faced off for the 54th time with the Panthers holding a 35-19 advantage in the all-time series. 
Middlebury is back in action on Sunday when it travels to Babson for a 1:00 p.m. contest.
