The 19th-ranked Middlebury men's lacrosse team outscored 14th-ranked Wesleyan 6-2 in the first quarter and did not look back, cruising to a 15-8 road victory on Saturday.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Panthers got on the board after just 51 seconds. Billy Curtis cut inside and ripped a sidearm shot into the far-right corner for the 1-0 edge.
  • The Cardinals responded with a goal by Ben Burns just over a minute later, before Curtis tallied his second marker to give the visitors a 2-1 lead.
  • With 6:58 to go in the opening frame, DJ Dixon evened the score at 2-2, running 50 yards with the ball before bouncing a shot past Middlebury goalie Hayden Kern.
  • The Panthers owned the remainder of the first frame, finding the back of the net four times. The run was capped by a marker from Russell Thorndike with 1:03 left to give Middlebury a 6-2 advantage.
  • The second stanza was a defensive affair. With just less than five minutes elapsed, Will Ford made it 7-2 with a low, left-handed shot into the bottom-right corner.
  • Both teams were held scoreless for the next 8:32, before Pete Steinle took a pass from Curtis and rifled a shot past Wesleyan goalie Conor Slefridge to extend the Panther advantage to six (8-2).
  • The Cardinals cut the deficit to five (8-3) with a goal by Alex Moynihan with 40 seconds to go, but Thorndike closed the half with a close-range tally to send the visitors into the locker room with a 9-3 lead.
  • The squads traded goals over the opening 2:08 of the third quarter, as Dixon and Tom Conley each found the back of the net to make it 10-4. Wesleyan pulled to within five (10-5) just 36 seconds later on a diving goal by Jack Raba.
  • The Panthers closed the third stanza on the strong foot, as John McCarthy fired a long-range effort into the right corner with 2:09 to go, bringing the score to 11-5 with one quarter left to play.
  • Middlebury picked up where it left off to start the final frame, rattling off three unanswered goals over the first six minutes of action to pull into a 14-5 lead.
  • The Cardinals made it a seven-goal contest (14-7) with goals by James Bailey and Dixon, before Conley beat Slefridge with a nice move to increase the Panther advantage to 15-7 with 2:18 to play.
  • Dixon added a marker with 16 seconds remaining, but it was not enough as Middlebury earned a 15-8 victory.
