The 19th-ranked Middlebury men's lacrosse team scored nine times in both the first and second quarters, en route to a dominant 23-15 victory at Springfield.
HIGHLIGHTS
- The Pride wasted little time getting on the board, scoring just 43 seconds into the contest. Bryan Stensrud sent a pass from behind the goal to Kevin Tierney who cut toward the net and buried the attempt for the 1-0 edge.
- The Panthers responded with eight unanswered goals. Cooper DeMallie sparked the run with a sidearm shot from 20 yards out at the 12:39 mark, with the next tally coming from Billy Curtis just eight seconds later after the ensuing faceoff. William Ryan capped the span with a marker with just over two minutes remaining.
- Springfield broke up the scoring frenzy with a cutting goal by Brady Soldo, but Patrick Jamin found nylon with five ticks left on the clock for the commanding 9-2 lead.
- The second quarter belonged to Logan White, as he played a pivotal role in extending Middlebury's advantage to 18-3, tallying six of the team's nine goals during the stanza.
- With fresh goalies on the field for both squads to start the second half, the Pride found their footing, cutting the deficit to 10 (21-11), with a hat trick coming from Jake Degnan.
- The fourth quarter was the quietest of them all, with Will Ford and Finn McCarthy closing out the scoring as the Panthers eased to the 23-15 triumph.
NOTES
- White tallied a career-high six markers during the win, all coming in the second stanza.
- The 23 goals scored are the most by Middlebury since March 10, 2020 when the Panthers tallied 30.
- Middlebury and Springfield played for the 50th time, with the Panthers improving to 37-13 overall.
