Multiple Event Wins Highlight Women’s Track & Field Efforts In Two California Meets

Audrey MacLean won the 3,000-meter steeplechase on Friday.
The Middlebury women's track and field team wrapped up its annual spring break trip to California with four event wins and numerous top-five finishes during the Mangrum Invitational on Friday and the Point Loma Nazarene University (PLNU) Track & Field  Invitational on Saturday. Highlighting the meets were victories from Audrey MacLean, Ciara Dale, Macy Daggitt and Reilly Isler.
 
HIGHLIGHTS AT MANGRUM INVITATIONAL (FRIDAY)
  • MacLean led the field to the finish line in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a victorious time of 10:50.74. 
  • In the 5,000m run, Victoria Fawcett lowered her collegiate-best time by more than a minute, finishing as the runner-up with a clocking of 17:58.65. Her previous best time in the event was 19:01.71. Violet Ross also tallied a top-10 effort in the event, crossing the line in ninth (18:14.38) with a personal-best time by 4.21 seconds.
  • Jaxon Palmer finished in fourth place during the hammer throw with a personal-best distance of 43.02m. Lilly Wurtz tossed the implement 41.41m for fifth, surpassing her collegiate-best mark by 5.66 meters.
HIGHLIGHTS AT PLNU COLLEGIATE INVITATIONAL (SATURDAY)
  • On Saturday at PLNU, Dale won the 400 hurdles by 2.20 seconds with a clocking of 1:04.03. Cate Kreutzen (1:08.34) finished in fifth place. 
  • Daggitt claimed the long jump event title, hitting the sand with a mark of 5.18m.
  • Isler won the javelin with a victorious toss of 35.77m, while Palmer earned the bronze in the event at 34.39m.
  • The 4x100 relay quartet of Katie Bruno, Melissa White, Michelle Louie and Daggitt ran to second place (48.36), while Madeline Sauders was the runner-up in the discus at 34.34m.
  • Alanna Saunders tallied a third-place effort in the shot put with a heave of 10.13m, while Julia Tulimieri finished fourth at 9.75m.
  • Tatum Peskin raced to fourth place in the 800 with a clocking of 2:20.05.
  • Fifth-place efforts came from Emma Mills in the 100 hurdles (15.77), Anna Krouse during the 400 (59.23) and Brooke Dolan in the high jump (1.50m).
NOTES
  • MacLean ran the 3,000 steeplechase for the first time in her collegiate career.
  • Mills recorded a personal-best clocking in the 100 hurdles on Saturday.
  • Both meets featured schools from all three NCAA divisions as well as NAIA institutions. 
The Panthers have a week off from competition before returning to action on Saturday, April 6 at the Amherst Spring Fling.
