#4 Women’s Tennis Downed By #3 Pomona-Pitzer 6-3

The fourth-ranked Middlebury women's tennis team opened the match by winning two of the three doubles matches, but was unable to hold off #3 Pomona-Pitzer, as the Sagehens claimed a 6-3 triumph.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • The duo of Gena Huang and Claudia Miller began the evening by cruising to an 8-2 victory in the second slot. 
  • Pomona-Pitzer evened the score with an 8-3 win at #3, before the top tandem of Sahana Raman and Nathalie van der Reis earned a hard-fought 8-5 win to make it 2-1 heading into singles play.
  • The Sagehens managed to take a 3-2 lead, opening singles action with straight-set victories at #6 and #2.
  • Lulu Wu evened the score for the Panthers, claiming a 7-6, 6-3 triumph in the third spot to make it 3-3.
  • Pomona-Pitzer took a 4-3 edge with a win at #4.
  • Middlebury would not go away easily, with van der Reis (#5) and Raman (#1) each winning their second sets to force third-set deciders. Ultimately, the Sagehens were able to hang on and come away with wins for the 6-3 triumph.
NOTES
  • With her victory during singles action, Wu is currently riding a five-match winning streak this season with each of her wins coming in straight-sets.
  • The programs played for the 14th time with Middlebury holding a 9-5 advantage.
The Panthers return to the courts on Wednesday for a match against Caltech at 6:00 p.m. EST.
