Baseball Bounces Back With 7-1 Win Over William Paterson

The Middlebury baseball team took the lead in the second inning and never looked back, easing past William Paterson 7-1 on Tuesday afternoon.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • In the top of the second, Nathan Samii led off, launching a triple to left center. Lucas Flemming grounded out to shortstop to bring Samii home and make it 1-0.
  • Middlebury tacked on three more runs in the fifth. Lucas Cai singled and Gus Parker doubled to left before Beau Root was hit by a pitch to load the bases. A Pioneer miscue allowed Cai and Parker to cross home plate, before a single by Mitchell Schroeder scored Root to extend the advantage to 4-0.
  • William Paterson sliced the deficit to three (4-1) in the bottom of the frame. Noah Cabassa led off with a walk and scampered around to score on a double by Austin Jack.
  • The Panthers pulled away in the top of the eighth. Samii continued his strong day, doubling to left-center and advancing to third on a flyout, before scoring on a wild pitch to make it 5-1. Later in the inning, with Baker Angstman on second, Zip Malley reached on an error and moved to second, allowing Angstman to cross home plate Aiden Han followed with a base hit to plate Malley and bring the final score to 7-1.
NOTES

  • Samii has been superb over the last pair of contests, registering four hits, four runs, two homers, one triple and one double.
  • Today's game was the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
The Panthers return to the diamond on Wednesday for a 10:30 a.m. contest against Lawrence.
