The top-ranked Middlebury women's lacrosse team tallied eight unanswered goals midway through the contest to pull away from #5 Franklin & Marshall 18-9. The victory marked the program's 600th win, as the team improves to 5-0 on the year. The contest took place at the U.S. Lacrosse Headquarters in Maryland.
HIGHLIGHTS
- With just over one minute expired, Hope Shue found the back of the net to give the Panthers a 1-0 edge.
- Susan Rowley increased the lead (2-0), but the Diplomats responded with a marker from Lane Lambeth at the 8:11 mark to cut the deficit to one (2-1).
- Caroline Adams took advantage of an extra player situation, scoring with just over five minutes left in the opening quarter.
- A free position goal from Franklin & Marshall's Gillian Brennan and a tally from Lauren Pittman knotted the contest at 3-3 with 1:51 remaining.
- Middlebury scored four unanswered markers spanning the end of the first stanza and into the second to take a 7-3 lead with 11:53 remaining in the half.
- The Diplomats answered with a tally from Lambeth at the 10:53 mark, but the Panthers continued to pull away, scoring eight-straight goals spanning the end of the second stanza through the third to take a commanding 15-4 lead.
- Lauren Pittman converted a free position attempt for Franklin & Marshall with less than two minutes left in the third to make it 15-5.
- Brennan tallied a free position goal to start the fourth quarter, pulling the Diplomats within single digits (15-6).
- Kate Motley and Sara Ellinghaus recorded back-to-back markers, including one with an extra player to extend the Panther lead to 17-6.
- Franklin & Marshall wouldn't go away, as Brennan struck again to spark a 3-0 run, pulling the squad within eight (17-8), but that was as close as they would get.
- Motley closed out the scoring with a player-up free-position marker to seal the 18-9 victory.
NOTES
- Adams was phenomenal during the contest, tallying a career-high six points (4G, 2A), while winning 10 draw controls.
- Rowley recorded three goals during the contest, eclipsing the 100 career markers plateau.
- The victory was the program's 33rd-straight triumph.
- Middlebury and Franklin & Marshall met for the fifth time, with the Panthers owning a 4-1 mark.
Middlebury has a quick turnaround, traveling to #10 The College of New Jersey on Thursday for a 4:00 p.m. start.
