Women’s Track and Field To Take Part in DIII New England Championships

The Middlebury women's track and field team prepares for the DIII New England Championships this weekend.
The Middlebury women's track and field team travels to Boston, Mass. for the Division III New England Championships, beginning on Friday at 3:00 p.m. The pentathlon will take place in the Gantcher Field House on Friday and Saturday, while the remainder of the events will be hosted at the TRACK at New Balance.
 
ABOUT MIDDLEBURY
  • The Panthers have made an appearance at every Division III New England Championships since 2000. 
  • Middlebury's best finish at the meet came in 2018 when the squad placed third out of 30 teams.
  • Last season, the Panthers finished fourth out of 27 teams competing. 
PANTHERS TO WATCH
  • Mary Scott Robinson owns a top-10 spot in both the shot put and weight throw so far this season. The senior recorded a toss of 12.02 meters in the shot during the opening meet, which is eighth best across New England. Her heave of 14.62m in the weight throw at the NYU DIII Invitational ranks 10th.
  • Melissa White is set to compete in both the 200-meter and 60-meter dashes. White holds the 15th-fastest time in the region in the 200, crossing the finish line in 25.74 seconds at the BU Valentine Invitational, while also boasting a time of 8.00 seconds in the 60.
  • Continuing her prolific first-year campaign, Audrey MacLean qualified in the 3,000 and the mile. Her time of 10:00.15 in the longer event is fifth in New England, while she completed the mile in 5:03.31 at the Valentine Invitational to rank seventh.
  • Ciara Dale sits ninth in the 600 and 14th in the 800 heading into championship weekend. The senior completed the 600 in 1:37.99 during the Middlebury Winter Classic and crossed the finish line in 2:18.16 in the 800 at the Valentine Invitational. Dale was crowned the champion of the 600 during last year's New England Championship with a personal-best time of 1:36.11.
  • In the 400, Anna Krouse holds the ninth-quickest time (57.73 seconds), which she achieved at the Valentine Invitational. Michelle Louie recorded a clocking of 58.08 during the same race, which ranks 14th in New England.
  • Zoe Wang leads the Panthers in the pole vault and sits 11th in the region, clearing the bar at 3.50m during the New England Small College Invitational.
  • Middlebury ranks in the top-10 spots in each of the relay events. The 4x200 quartet of Louie, Katie Bruno, Annabel Cloney and White is third in New England with a clocking of 1:44.30, while the 4x400 team of Louie, Anna Mazur, Mary Elliot and Krouse sits seventh with a time of 4:01.88. 
  • In the distance medley relay (DMR), Victoria Fawcett, Lily Bulczynski, Caroline VanSchaick and Tatum Peskin raced to a time of 12:21.91 during the New England Small Colleges Invitational to rank sixth across the region.
ABOUT THE COMPETITION
  • Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is ranked #5, Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) is #19 and St. Lawrence is ranked 22nd in the latest United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) national poll, while there are multiple regionally-ranked squads that will also take part in the event. 
  • Nine individual champions return from last year, including Lucy Gagnon (1,000), Molly Fitzgibbons (mile) and Genna Girard (5,000) of Williams. Bowdoin's Charlotte Hodge will hope to repeat in the pole vault, while Jaidyn Appel of Tufts will look to retain her crown in the high jump.
  • Alexis Boykin of MIT returns to the field after claiming the title in both the weight throw and shot put last winter. Tufts' Lia Rotti also won multiple events at last year's championships, earning the top spot in the long and triple jumps.
