Madden helped guide the Panthers to NCAA Championship Weekend for the second time in program history.
Middlebury senior defender Luke Madden has been named the New England Soccer Journal Division III Player of the Year.Â
HIGHLIGHTS
- Madden earns the award for the first time.
- The senior tallied his second-consecutive United Soccer Coaches All-Region First-Team honor.
- The organization named him a First Team All-American, making the center back the first field player since Deklan Robinson (2015) to earn the distinction.Â
- He became the initial Panther since 2014 and the fifth overall to earn NESCAC Player of the Year praises alongside his second-straight first-team all-conference honor.
- The defender was a workhorse, tallying the second-most minutes played (1,847) and helped lead Middlebury to top-15 marks in the nation in shutout percentage (fifth - 0.609) and goals against average (12th - 0.603).
- He contributed on the offensive end of the field, finding the back of the net three times and adding four assists.Â
- Madden has also excelled in the classroom with a College Sports Communicators (CSC) Second Team All-America nod and his second-consecutive NESCAC All-Academic honor.
The senior pushed the Panthers to a 17-2-4 record and the program's second-ever NCAA Championship Weekend appearance. The program also secured consecutive unbeaten regular seasons for the first time since the 1972 and 1973 seasons.
