The Middlebury women's basketball team trailed by as many as 16 points in the first half, before coming from behind to top Connecticut College 62-51. The contest took place at the Broadview Center on the campus of the University of Albany and did not count toward the conference standings.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Ahead by two (8-6) at the 4:09 mark, the Camels ripped off a 16-5 run capped by a three-pointer from Mia Xerras for a 24-11 advantage after one quarter of action.
- Connecticut College slowly increased its lead over the opening 4:48 of the second stanza, extending the cushion to 31-15 on a jumper from Sydney Marshall.
- The Panthers began their impressive comeback, responding with 11 unanswered points. The run was sparked by a shot from beyond the arc by Calie Messina, as Middlebury cut the deficit to five (31-26) at the break.
- The Camels sank the first shot of the third quarter with just 27 ticks off the clock, but the Panthers answered with a decisive 15-2 run over the ensuing 7:04 to take a 41-35 lead.
- Addi Hunter converted a pair of shots from the charity stripe to slice the Middlebury advantage to four (41-37) with 2:05 remaining.
- The Panthers closed the stanza with a 9-2 run for a commanding 50-39 advantage. The span was highlighted by five points from Keeley Baglio.
- Out of the break, Connecticut College tried to spoil the comeback bid with a pair of layups to close the gap to seven (50-43).
- A three from Alexa Mustafaj with 6:58 remaining sparked an 8-3 run to extend the Panther lead back out to double-digits (58-46) with 4:25 to go.
- The Camels tallied five of the next seven points, but that was as close as they would get as Middlebury eased to the 62-51 come-from-behind win.
NOTES
- Messina (14P, 11R) and August Dixon (10P, 13R) each recorded a double-double during the victory.
- The programs played for the 31st time with the Panthers improving to 24-7 in the all-time series.
Middlebury closes out first-semester action at Norwich on Friday and Saturday, competing in the Ed Hockenbury Classic.
