#17 Women’s Soccer Earns Scoreless Tie With Williams

The #17 Middlebury women's soccer team battled Williams on Tuesday, but 90 minutes wasn't enough as the game ended in a 0-0 tie.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Panthers looked to get on the board early at the 3:28 mark of the first half when Fanny Lodge crossed the ball over to Joely Virzi. The senior took a shot in front of the net, but her bid was stopped by Ephs goalie Margaret Huelin.
  • Middlebury manufactured another scoring chance with 11:26 expired. Abby Ward one-timed the ball after a shot from Virzi. Ward's rebound sailed high, hitting off the crossbar before pinging away.
  • Lily Mark attempted to get Williams on the board when she ripped a shot from outside the box in the 14th minute, but her bid sailed into the outstretched hands of Panther goalie Carolyn Kelley.
  • Mark had another opportunity to get on the score sheet with 28:58 elapsed when Kelley thwarted the attempt.
  • At the 40:46 mark, Ward raced down the pitch and cut around two defenders before firing a shot on goal that Huelin smothered to keep the game scoreless.
  • The Ephs started the second half strong with a shot by Brianna Wright from 25 yards out when Sydney Poppinga made the catching save with 48:24 expired.
  • Kiley Bertos had a chance for the game-winner when she fired a shot from 20 yards out in the 59th minute, but Ana Bozzi-Mackay stopped her bid to keep Middlebury off of the scoreboard.

NOTES
  • Kelley and Poppinga shared the shutout.
  • With today's draw, the Panthers have six ties on the season, which breaks the previous program record of five which was set in 2023.
The NESCAC Tournament seedings will be announced this evening by the league office once the final regular season game is completed.
