Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

#15 Trinity Outlasts Men’s Ice Hockey 3-2

The Middlebury men's hockey team pulled to within one goal on two occasions, but were unable to tie the contest as the Panthers fell 3-2 at 15th-ranked Trinity on Saturday evening.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Midway through the first period, the Bantams sent a flurry of shots toward the goal. Jax Murray had the best opportunity to score, firing an attempt from the right circle which was snagged by Middlebury goalie Jake Horoho.
  • With 6:21 showing on the clock, Trinity threatened to break the deadlock. Horoho steered a close-range effort from Richard Boysen aside before snatching a slapshot from the blueline by Eamon Doheny to keep the game scoreless.
  • The Bantams took the lead at the 15:29 mark in the opening stanza. Nicholas Siffringer pounced on the loose puck in the offensive zone and centered a pass for Alexander Mozian, who ripped his bid from just outside the crease into the bottom-left corner for the 1-0 edge.
  • After only 42 seconds of action in the middle frame, the Panthers nearly leveled the score. Dante Palombo found Andrej Hromic in between the circles, whose effort looked destined for the top-left corner, but Bantam goalie Devon Bobak tipped the bid just over the bar.
  • Trinity doubled its lead 4:20 into the second period. Murray skated around the goal and fed Spencer Korona who had snuck in at the far pipe to tap the puck into the net and make it 2-0.
  • Middlebury responded with a goal just 30 seconds later. John Burdett skated down the left side of the offensive zone and backhanded the puck towards the crease which snuck past multiple defenders and into the goal to cut the deficit to one (2-1).
  • The Panthers almost knotted the contest on a shorthanded opportunity with 7:15 to go in the frame. Hromic sped past a Bantam defender to track down the loose puck and skated in one-on-one, but his backhanded effort was thwarted by the left pad of Bobak.
  • With 2:35 gone in the third period, the hosts took a 3-1 lead. Mozian tallied his second of the contest, skating behind the net before flicking a quick shot over Horoho's right shoulder.
  • At the 11:51 mark of the final stanza, Horoho was forced into a brilliant save. Tomaso charged at the net from the left side, but the Middlebury netminder bravely dove out to snare the puck.
  • The Panthers pulled to within one on the power play with 6:47 remaining. Paddy Mangan received a pass from Jin Lee at the blue line and blasted a one-timer that beat Bobak and made it 3-2.
  • Middlebury controlled the final 2:30 of play, peppering the Trinity net with numerous attempts, but were unable to tie the game as the Bantams hung on for the 3-2 win.
NOTES
  • Burdett's goal was his first of the season.
  • Lee has contributed at least one point in six of the last eight games.
  • The programs faced off for the 49th time with the Bantams holding a narrow 25-20-4 edge in the all time series.
The Panthers are back in action on Friday when they travel to Plattsburgh State at 7:00 p.m.
