Men’s Hockey Falls To Longtime Rival #3 Plattsburgh State

The Middlebury men's ice hockey team fell by a score of 5-0 to third-ranked Plattsburgh State.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Cardinals got on the board with 5:45 expired in the opening period during a power play. An initial bid by Jake Lanyi was stopped by goalie Andrew Heinze, but Bennett St. Stockdale was there to one-time the rebound into the net for the early 1-0 edge.
  • Middlebury threatened to score less than a minute later when Wyatt Pastor skated into the offensive zone with a head of steam, but his shot from the right point was thwarted by netminder Jacob Hearne.
  • Plattsburgh State cashed in on a five-on-three situation at the 13:37 mark when Luk St. Jirousek shoveled in a rebound for the 2-0 advantage.
  • The Cardinals tacked on a pair of tallies in quick succession toward the end of the period, taking a 4-0 lead after 20 minutes of action.
  • Out of the break, Middlebury had a great chance to cut into the deficit during the power play, but Revy Mack's cross-crease shot was smothered by Hearne.
  • Less than a minute later, Plattsburgh State's Ryan St. Hogg found the back of the net for the 5-0 advantage.
  • The Cardinals had a power-play opportunity in the early goings of the third period, but a strong Middlebury defense was able to keep Plattsburgh State at bay.
