The Middlebury men's hockey team trailed 1-0 until midway through the third period but came from behind to edge Connecticut College 2-1 in overtime. With the win, the Panthers extend their unbeaten streak to four.
HIGHLIGHTS
- The Camels had a chance to open the scoring with 4:21 elapsed, but goalie Jake Horoho thwarted Rocco Testa-Basi's sharp-angled attempt.
- With 7:52 expired, Matt Myers ripped a shot from the top of the left faceoff circle, but netminder Sean Dynan just got a piece of his left pad on the puck to deny the opportunity.
- A little over two minutes into the second period, John Burdett had a tip-in attempt from close range, but a sprawling Dynan turned the puck away.
- At the 7:32 mark, Tucker Lamb nearly scored on a breakaway, but Dynan made another great stop with his pad to keep the contest scoreless.
- Connecticut College broke through with less than two minutes remaining in the stanza. Testa-Basi skated from the left circle up to the blue line, spun around and rifled a shot that bounced through traffic and into the goal for the 1-0 edge.
- With 7:50 expired in the third stanza, Ryan Pineault threatened to tie the contest with a power-play chance from the right dot, but a Camel defender used his body to block the attempt that looked destined for the goal.
- Middlebury knotted the game with just over 10 minutes remaining in the period. Nolan Moore blasted a shot from the left dot that tucked inside the right pipe to make it 1-1.
- With 3:33 left on the clock, Connecticut College looked for the game-winning marker, but Michael DiMascolo's bid from the doorstep was denied by Horoho to force overtime.
- The Panthers tallied the golden goal at the 1:45 mark of the extra session. Bobby May stole the puck from a Camel in the neutral zone and skated into the offensive zone with a head full of steam. Seaman fired a shot from close range on the left pipe, flipping it over Dynan's left shoulder for the 2-1 victory.
NOTES
- With the triumph, Middlebury completed the season-sweep over Connecticut College, having edged the Camels 3-2 in the December meeting.
- Tonight marked the 54th all-time meeting and the 35th victory for the Panthers.
- Horoho was phenomenal in goal, stopping 35 shots to tie his season high.
Middlebury travels to Tufts on Saturday for a 4:00 p.m. contest.
