Women’s Track & Field Wins Middlebury Winter Classic

Louie, Cloney and Bruno were part of the winning 4x200 relay squad.
The Panther women's track and field team won the Middlebury Winter Classic with 266.33 points. The University of Vermont finished in second place with 213.33 points, while Amherst rounded out the top-three squads (65.33 points).
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • On Friday afternoon, Eloise Christy made her collegiate debut in the pentathlon. The Panther's best finish came in the 800-meter, where her strong kick in the final lap produced a first-place clocking of 2:34.91, nearly 10 seconds ahead of the next competitor. 
  • Middlebury had three runners place in the top-four spots in the 3,000m. Sophie Nardelli paced the field with a winning time of 10:34.58, while Sheldyn Fisher was third (10:53.56) and Josie Dolan rounded out the group in fourth (10:59.62).
  • In the mile, Victoria Fawcett crossed the finish line with a time of 5:17.45 to place fourth out of 34 racers.
  • Zoe Wang tied for second place in the pole vault, launching herself over the bar at a height of 3.20m.
  • For the second time in as many weeks, Mary Scott Robinson was crowned the winner of the shot put, launching the implement 11.69m.
  • Gabriella Gerig improved her long jump mark by 0.05m from the last meet, hitting the sand at 4.85m to earn fifth place.
  • In the triple jump, Isabelle Gay finished in fourth place with a leap of 9.88m.
  • The Panthers had three sprinters advance to the finals in the 60m hurdles, led by Emma Mills who placed fourth with a clocking of 9.72. Olivia Carden followed in fifth (9.83), while Maggie Allen was one spot back in sixth (10.21).
  • Winning the 400m for the second-consecutive week was Anna Krouse, breaking the tape at 1:00.21. 
  • Four athletes placed in the top-five spots of the 600, led by Ciara Dale who won the race with a clocking of 1:39.19.
  • Macy Daggitt (8.14) and Olive Lawrence (8.16) finished second and third, respectively, in the finals of the 60m dash.
  • In the 800m, Ashley Raynor placed fifth with a time of 2:26.68.
  • Tatum Peskin was the first to cross the finish line in the 1,000m, stopping the clock in 3:04.91. Lily Bulczynski was two spots back in third, recording a time of 3:10.65.
  • The Panthers claimed the top-eight spots in the 200m, led by Michelle Louie's winning time of 26.50. Krouse (26.872) and Annabel Cloney (26.880) were just one-tenth of a second apart to finish in second and third place, respectively. 
  • Brooke Dolan finished in fifth place in the high jump, soaring to a height of 1.50m. 
  • Middlebury took the top-four spots in the weight throw. Lilly Wurtz earned first place with a toss of 14.43m, while Scott-Robinson was the runner-up (13.52m).
  • The Panther relay teams closed out the meet with a pair of victories. The 4x200 relay squad (Louie, Katie Bruno, Cloney and Melissa White) combined for a blistering 1:45.92 to win the event. Dale, Elle Thompson, Mary Elliot and Krouse stopped the clock in 4:05.91 to claim the 4x400 relay, which was two seconds faster than last week's performance.
NOTES
  • Nardelli and Dolan both recorded personal best times in the 3,000, each shaving nearly two seconds off their previous times.
  • Allen's time in the 60 hurdles was the fastest of her career thus far.
  • B. Dolan's height in the high jump was a personal record. 
  • Wurtz recorded a personal-record toss in the weight throw, improving by nearly half a meter. 
The Panthers travel to The Track at New Balance in Boston next Sunday to host Middlebury's New England Small College Invite.
