Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Men’s Ice Hockey Races Past Colby With 4-1 Victory

The Middlebury men's ice hockey team tallied the first four goals of the game en route to a dominant 4-1 victory over Colby to open the weekend. The Panthers had four different goal-scorers during the win.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Middlebury opened the scoring with 4:59 expired in the first period when Wyatt Pastor tipped in an initial blast by Andrew Seaman during a power play, making it 1-0.
  • The Panthers had a great chance to double their lead with 30 ticks left on the clock. John Burdett chipped the puck along the left boards to Matt Myers who found himself in a breakaway situation, but his point-blank, short-handed chance from the slot was smothered by Mules' goalie Andy Beran.
  • At the 8:29 mark of the middle frame, Middlebury's Jin Lee found the back of the net. Andrej Hromic sent a pass from behind the goal to Paddy Bogart who spun around and slipped the puck to Lee. Dragging the puck from left to right across the crease, Lee eluded Beran to make it 2-0.
  • Colby looked to get on the board with just under five minutes remaining in the period. Matt MacDonald's blast from the point was denied by netminder Jake Horoho, but the puck flipped up and over Horoho, threatening to cross the goal line. Horoho reacted quickly, sprawling out to deny the chance.
  • The Panthers increased their advantage to 4-0 with a pair of quick goals in the final 3:07. Nolan Moore made it a three-goal lead when he rifled a shot from the left dot that pinged off the right post and into the net. The fourth tally came from Tucker Lamb who lifted the puck over the left shoulder of Beran on a one-time pass from Pastor.
  • The Mules spoiled the Middlebury shutout during a power play at the 8:39 mark of the final period. Jake MacDonald wristed a shot from between the circles that snuck past Horoho to make it 4-1.
  • Colby tested Horoho and the Panthers over the final stretch of the contest, but Middlebury stood tall to secure the 4-1 victory.
NOTES
  • The teams met for the 89th time this evening, with the Panthers winning their 59th contest against the Mules. The teams met in the first game of the season, ending in a scoreless draw.
  • Horoho played phenomenal in goal, stopping 28 of 29 shots faced.
  • Pastor factored into two of Middlebury's four goals, including tallying the game-winner.
The Panthers return to Kenyon Arena on Saturday for a 4:00 p.m. puck drop with Bowdoin.
