#15 Men’s Soccer Scores Twice In Second Half In 2-0 Win Over Wesleyan

The 15th-ranked Middlebury men's soccer team scored two goals in the second half of Saturday's contest on its way to a 2-0 victory over Wesleyan.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Panthers looked to get on the scoreboard five minutes into the opening half, but a rising shot from Will Sawin was saved by Wesleyan goalie Josh Nadison.
  • Middlebury produced another opportunity 15 minutes into the action. Gavin Randolph found space behind the defense, but his flicked effort was punched over the crossbar by Nadison.
  • The hosts continued their pressure on the offensive end. With 21 minutes left, Jordan Saint-Louis collected an errant pass near the midfield stripe and raced up the right side. The forward dribbled past Nadison but had his bid denied by Wesleyan defender Chris Porte to keep the match scoreless headed to the halftime break.
  • Following the intermission, the Cardinals had a quality chance nearly 16 minutes into the second frame. Yousef Saeed dribbled toward the middle, rifling a shot 22 yards that was saved by goalie Ryan Grady leaping inside his right post.
  • The Panthers tallied their first goal with 26:42 left showing on the clock. Kyle Nilsson headed a ball toward Saint-Louis, who turned and flicked it over the Wesleyan defense. He raced onto the bouncing ball and tucked a shot into the lower-right corner for the 1-0 lead.
  • The visitors pressed for the equalizer in the 70th minute with a pair of chances. The best came on a corner kick, but Porte's header was saved by Grady gliding to his left.
  • Middlebury increased its advantage with 9:43 remaining. Saint-Louis sent a nifty through ball to a charging Colin Dugan who ripped a one-touch effort just through the legs of Nadison into the lower-left portion of the net for the final 2-0 result.
NOTES
  • Saint-Louis finished with a goal and an assist for three points. This marks the fourth-straight match that the Panther has recorded a point and the sixth game in eight this season.
  • Grady posted his fourth shutout of the fall and third in the last four contests. He continues to add to his program-best clean sheet total of 33.
  • The programs met for the 45th time in a series in which the Panthers possess a 29-10-6 edge. Middlebury is 8-0-4 in the last 12 contests against the Cardinals.
The Panthers return to action on Tuesday with a 4:00 p.m. road contest at Vassar.
