Beatty Named USTFCCCA MidEast Outdoor Regional Coach of the Year

Martin Beatty was named MidEast Regional Outdoor Coach of the Year for the second time.
Middlebury head men's and women's track and field coach Martin Beatty was named the MidEast Regional Women's Coach of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for the team's performances during the 2023 outdoor season. 
 
COACHING HIGHLIGHTS
  • Beatty earned the regional coach of the year honor for the second-consecutive season, while also winning the USTFCCCA New England Regional Coach of the Year honors twice (1998, 2000).
  • The head coach led the Middlebury women's track and field team to its fourth NESCAC title and second-consecutive title this season.
  • At this year's NESCAC Championships, Beatty coached champions in the discus and 4x800-meter relay as well as 11 All-NESCAC performers.
  • This year, the team  placed 14 members on the USTFCCCA Outdoor All-Region team.
  • In total, Beatty guided the team to victories in three-straight meets and a third-place finish in the Division III New England Championships.
  • This winter, Beatty helped the women's distance medley relay capture the New England Crown and a sixth place finish at the NCAA Indoor Championship. 
  • During his time at the helm of the program, Beatty has coached four NCAA Individual National Champions, 54 Outdoor All-Americans and 124 individual NESCAC Champions.
Cady Barns and Emily Rubio qualified for the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Championships. Barns has rewritten the Panther record books multiple times, and currently holds the school records in long jump (5.84m) and triple jump (12.07m). Rubio has enjoyed a successful first-year campaign, setting a new record in the heptathlon with 4,477 points. Beatty will also coach three Panthers from the men's team at the event.
