Women’s Track and Field Tallies Four First-Place Finishes At Amherst Spring Fling

Michelle Louie placed third in the 400m and fourth in the 200m.
The Middlebury women's track and field team earned four first-place finishes at the Amherst Spring Fling on Saturday afternoon. The meet was the first meet back on the east coast for the Panthers, and featured no team scoring.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • Melissa White claimed the top spot in the 200-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 25.68. Michelle Louie finished three places back, with a time of 26.25.
  • Ciara Dale won the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:03.85, while Cate Kreutzen placed eighth (1:09.49), while Audrey Grimes rounded out the top 10 stopping the clock at 1:11.07.
  • In the triple jump, Cady Barns cruised to victory, taking first place with a leap of 11.39m, which was 0.26m longer than the second place finisher.
  • The quartet of White, Louie, Eva Kaiden and Barns finished first in the 4x100 relay, crossing the finish line in 48.09, nearly a second faster than second place.
  • Louie also earned a third place finish in the 400, stopping the clock in 59.14. Elle Thompson was seventh with a time of 1:00.38, while Annabel Cloney (ninth) and Lily Bulczynski (10th) finished in 1:01.02 and 1:01.21, respectively.
  • Kate Kenny placed third in the 1,500 with a time of 4:41.96. Tatum Peskin earned a seventh place finish (4:43.47), while Bea Parr rounded out the top 10 finishing in 4:47.41.
  • In the 4x400 relay, the team of White, Kenny, Bulczynski and Anna Krouse crossed the finish line in 4:04.44, which was good for third place.
  • Zoe Wang cleared the bar at 3.30m to claim third place in the pole vault. 
  • In the long jump, four Panthers finished in the top 10. Barns was second with a leap of 5.41m. Olive Lawrence placed fifth, jumping 5.09m, while Lucy Pollitt and Emily Rubio finished seventh and eighth with distances of 5.01m and 5.00m, respectively.
  • Madeline Sauders and Jaxon Palmer each continued their strong starts to the spring season. Sauders finished second in the discus, with a throw of 34.98m. Palmer earned a runner-up finish in the javelin with a toss of 36.71m. 
  • Lillian Wurtz and Julia Tulimieri placed second and third in the shot put with throws of 11.41m and 11.35m, respectively. Mary Scott Robinson rounded out the Middlebury scorers, finishing seventh with a toss of 10.82m.

  • A host of Panthers recorded personal bests at the meet, including Pollitt (100), Lazar (100), Isabelle Gay (100), Katie Bruno (200), Lawrence (200), Peskin (1,500), Wurtz (shot put), Palmer (hammer & javelin) and Reilly Isler (javelin).
The Panthers will take part in two meets next weekend. The squad will travel to Princeton on April 14-15 for the Larry Ellis Invitational before traveling to Smith for the Carla Coffey Invitational on Saturday, April 15.
