#6 Women’s Tennis Drops First NESCAC Contest At #13 Williams

The sixth-ranked Middlebury women's tennis team suffered its first loss in NESCAC play on Saturday, dropping a 6-3 decision at #13 Williams. 
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Ephs grabbed the first point of the day, claiming an 8-5 victory in the second slot of doubles action.
  • At #3, Claudia Miller and Nina Farhat earned an 8-4 triumph, deadlocking the match 1-1.
  • Williams secured the final doubles point at the top of the lineup, winning 7-5 in the tiebreaker to make it 2-1 overall.
  • The Ephs earned a straight-sets victory at #1, before Mia Thomman outlasted Lulu Wu in a three-set thriller to give Williams a 4-1 advantage. 
  • In the fourth spot, Miller opened her match with a 6-3 win. She fell 6-0 in the middle set, but battled back to take the third set 6-4 and cut the Middlebury deficit to 4-2.
  • The Ephs clinched the match when Yuu Shikawa came from behind to claim a three-set victory at #2.
  • Amanda Frank cruised 6-4, 6-3 at the bottom of the lineup to make it 5-3.
  • The match in the fifth spot was a grueling battle between Gena Huang and Jane Ladaga. After nearly five hours of play, Ladaga secured the win with a three-set victory, giving Williams the 6-3 win. 
NOTES
  • The Panthers and the Ephs met for the 62nd time today.
Middlebury travels to Maine next weekend to take on Colby and Bowdoin.
