#5 Panthers Dominate #6 Ephs 7-2

The fifth-ranked Middlebury men's tennis team secured a dominant 7-2 victory over #6 Williams on Saturday. The win was the fifth straight for the Panthers, as the squad improved to 9-2 overall. 
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Ephs took a 1-0 edge with an 8-3 victory at the top of the doubles lineup, but Middlebury knotted the match 1-1 when Neel Epstein and Robby Ward earned an 8-3 win at #2. 
  • Julian Wu and Joe Mairs topped their opponents 8-5 in the third slot to give the Panthers a 2-1 edge heading into singles play.
  • Aidan Harris increased Middlebury's advantage to 3-1 with a straight-set victory (6-2, 7-5) at #2.
  • Williams earned a point in the third spot, but Noah Laber outlasted his opponent (6-2, 3-6, 6-1) at the top of the lineup to make it 4-2.
  • Zihao Yuan clinched the contest with a 6-2, 6-3 triumph at #6.
  • Wu and Ward picked up wins at #5 and #4, respectively, to secure the 7-2 win.
NOTES
  • Ward's victory was the 25th in his career, as he now owns a 25-14 mark.
  • Wu has now won 16-consecutive matches.
  • Middlebury and Williams met for the 61st time, with the Panthers claiming their second-straight 7-2 victory.
Middlebury travels to Maine next weekend for matches at Colby and Bowdoin.
