The sixth-ranked Middlebury women's tennis team ran its overall winning streak to four with a 7-2 home triumph over #9 Emory. With the victory, the Panthers improved to 4-1 against teams ranked in the top-25 spots in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) national poll.
HIGHLIGHTS
- The Middlebury duo of Amy Delman and Brinlea La Barge trailed 3-2 in the second doubles spot before winning six-consecutive games to garner the match's first point (8-3).
- In the top slot of the lineup, Panthers Sahana Raman and Nathalie van der Reis maintained small leads throughout the contest before earning an 8-6 triumph for a 2-0 Middlebury lead.
- The Eagles pulled to within one (2-1) with an 8-6 victory at #3 doubles.
- In singles action, van der Reis continued her winning ways picking up her 14th-straight victory with a 6-0, 6-2 win at #3.
- Raman earned her second point of the day, edging her opponent at #1 by scores of 6-4 and 6-3.
- Emory cut the deficit to two (4-2) with a straight-set victory one spot below.
- Gena Huang tallied the match-clinching point, turning a 2-1 advantage in the first set into a 5-1 edge during a 6-3, 6-0 triumph at the bottom of the lineup.
- Lulu Wu and Claudia Miller each needed three sets to claim their matches after both dropped the opening set. Wu battled back for a 5-7, 6-0, 6-4 win at #4, while a spot below Miller tallied a 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (5) victory for the final 7-2 score.
NOTES
- Miller's triumph in singles was her seventh in a row.
- Leading the way in the win column this season is van der Reis who recorded her 17th (17-2) and is a perfect 9-0 in 2023.
- The two programs met for the 14th match in the all-time series, as the Panthers have won the last two meetings.
The Panthers return to NESCAC action on Saturday with a 10:00 a.m. match at 13th-ranked Williams.
