Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

#5 Men’s Lacrosse Comes From Behind To Top Babson 18-15

The fifth-ranked Middlebury men's lacrosse team took its first lead of the game late in the third quarter, coming from behind to top Babson 18-15. The Panthers have won five-consecutive contests, and closed out the regular-season with an unblemished 7-0 record on Youngman Field at Alumni Stadium.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Beavers got off to a quick start, rattling off four-straight goals. The run was highlighted by a pair of 80-yard markers from Dillon Quinn who took advantage of Middlebury goalie Hayden Kern being out of the crease.
  • The Panthers got on the scoreboard with 6:03 left in the opening frame when J.D. Farkas tallied a player-down goal to make it 4-1.
  • Babson took advantage of back-to-back Middlebury penalties, scoring twice for a 6-1 advantage with just under five minutes remaining.
  • Luke Simpson drove to the goal and slipped the ball over the right shoulder of goalie Will Parducci, but the Beavers answered with the final marker of the quarter for the 7-2 lead.
  • Middlebury opened the second stanza with four-consecutive tallies. The run was sparked by a goal from Logan White whose shot hit the pipe and richoceted into the goal. Cooper DeMallie recorded a hat trick over the next several minutes, cutting the deficit to one (7-6) with 6:08 left in the half.
  • DeMallie added a fourth goal sandwiched between a pair of Babson markers, as the Beavers took a 9-7 lead heading into the break.
  • The teams traded the initial four goals of the third frame to keep the Babson lead at two (11-9). With just over five minutes left, Russell Thorndike snuck the ball into the net on a diving shot, before DeMallie bounced in a shot to knot the contest at 11-11.
  • The Beavers took a 12-11 edge with 3:21 to go, but the Panthers closed out the quarter with three unanswered goals. DeMallie found nylon from the right side, Will Zink's quick stick gave Middlebury its first lead of the game and Tom Conley wrapped around the goal and slipped the ball inside the left pipe for the 14-12 advantage.
  • Middlebury maintained its lead for the rest of the game, with Patrick Jamin closing out the scoring with a pair of markers in the final two minutes to secure the 18-15 victory.
NOTES
  • DeMallie's six points and goals were a career best, while the six goals tied for most scored by a Middlebury player in a game this season.
  • The Panthers were outstanding at shutting down the Division III leader in clearing percentage, denying nine in total for Babson's lowest percentage on the season (19-28).
  • Middlebury improved to 6-0 in the all-time series against the Beavers.
The Panthers hit the road for the final pair of regular-season contests, first traveling to #7 Amherst on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. start.
