#5 Men’s Lacrosse Downs Colby 22-12

The fifth-ranked Middlebury men's lacrosse team cruised past Colby 22-12 on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers celebrated senior day and honored the team's 14 seniors following the victory.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Middlebury opened the game with four unanswered goals over the first 6:22 of action. Russell Thorndike began the run with two markers, before a solo goal from Patrick Jamin and a low shot from Jack Sheehan made the score 4-0.
  • The Mules answered with a tally from Nick Hassan at the 6:03 mark, but Billy Curtis responded only seven seconds later to keep the Panther lead at four (5-1).
  • Colby's Carson Byrd fired home a goal with 1:16 left in the first quarter to make it 5-2 heading into the second stanza.
  • Will Zink and Logan White got Middlebury going in the second quarter, scoring markers at the 12:47 and 11:20 marks to make it 7-2.
  • Jack Goller netted his first tally of the game to cut the Mule deficit to four (7-3), but Johnny Kantaros restored the five goal lead straight from the faceoff, running 50 yards before beating Will Rickards in the Colby goal to make it 8-3.
  • Both teams tallied a pair of markers over the next five minutes. Ben Reynolds pulled Colby back within four (8-4), before a solo effort from Finn Muldoon and a close-range marker by Zink made it 10-4. Bennett Goller roofed a shot in the top shelf to bring it to 10-5.
  • With 13 seconds remaining in the half, William Ryan received a pass from Tom Conley and slipped a bouncing shot into the bottom left corner to give the Panthers an 11-5 edge heading into the break.
  • The teams traded goals to open the third quarter. Drew Dummer and Jake Peluso each got on the scoresheet to extend the lead to 13-5, but the Goller brothers scored goals just 30 seconds apart to make it 13-7.
  • Middlebury began to pull away with 5:18 remaining in the third quarter. Brendan Easter tallied his first goal of the season and began a string of nine-straight goals for the Panthers that spanned into the final period of play. Jackson Hanson capped the run with his first collegiate goal to give Middlebury a 22-7 lead with 9:17 left in the fourth quarter.
  • The Mules closed the game with five unanswered tallies of their own over the final 8:56 of action to move to within 10, but it was not enough, as the Panthers eased to a 22-12 triumph.
