#4 Panthers Top #16 Wesleyan 8-1

The fourth-ranked Middlebury men's tennis team swept doubles action and never looked back en route to its 8-1 victory over #16 Wesleyan on Sunday afternoon. 
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • Panthers Joe Mairs and Julian Wu got things going at #3, racing out to an 8-2 triumph.
  • The top tandem of Noah Laber and Aidan Harris grabbed the next point for Middlebury, taking an early 6-2 advantage. Cardinals' JT Bilski and Ben Mitchell cut the deficit down to one (7-6), but Laber and Harris won the final game for the 8-6 triumph.
  • At #2, Neel Epstein and Robby Ward took a 3-0 lead and eased to an 8-5 victory to give Middlebury the 3-0 start.
  • In singles action, Zihao Yuan breezed past his opponent at #6 (6-2, 6-2) to extend the Panther advantage to 4-0.
  • Robby Ward did not drop a single game in his first set, cruising to a 6-0, 6-2 victory in the fourth spot to clinch the match for Middlebury.
  • Laber (#1), Wu (#5) and Epstein (#3) each picked up straight-set triumphs in their respective spots of the ladder to increase the Panther lead to 8-0.
  • Wesleyan's lone point of the day came in the second slot. Harris and Mitchell split sets, before Mitchell edged Harris 10-7 in the tiebreaker for the 8-1 final score.
NOTES
  • Wu extended his winning streak to an impressive 15 consecutive victories. 
  • Epstein's triumph was the 30th in his career. 
  • Today's meeting was the 32nd between the teams, as the Panthers have now won four straight against the Cardinals.
