Softball Suffers Pair of Losses At THE Spring Games

The Middlebury softball team suffered a pair of losses on Tuesday at THE Spring Games. The Panthers fell 12-4 to Carleton and came up just short (8-7) against Manchester.

HIGHLIGHTS VS. CARLETON
  • Middlebury's Kristyn Carroll got things going in the first inning, blasting a triple to right field to score Abby Santis and McKenna Lont, before later touching home on a sacrifice fly by Megan Fox for the 3-0 advantage.
  • The Panthers added a run in the third when Cece Ziegler singled to right center to bring home Carroll for the 4-0 lead.
  • The Knights exploded for seven runs during its half of the inning, taking a 7-4 edge and never looking back.
  • Carleton added four runs in the fourth and tacked on a final tally in the fifth for the 12-4 triumph.
HIGHLIGHTS VS. MANCHESTER
  • A double by Santis drove in Ziegler to open the scoring and give Middlebury the early 1-0 edge.
  • The Spartans tied the game 1-1 in the first when a single by Delayne Sanchez brought home Izzy Dittmar.
  • Manchester added a pair of tallies in the fifth and one in the sixth to take a 4-1 advantage.
  • In the sixth, Santis smacked another double to send Jordyn Johnson across the plate, before later scoring on a homer by Carroll to even the score at 4-4.
  • Sabrina Leonard smacked the ball out of the park in the seventh, before Manchester tacked on three more tallies to take an 8-4 lead.
  • The Panthers threatened in their half of the inning. With two outs, Santis belted her third double of the game to bring home Johnson and Ziegler. Santis crossed the plate on a double by Carroll to make it 8-7, but the Spartans were able to record the final out to edge Middlebury 8-7.
NOTES
  • Santis' trio of doubles tied a school record for most in a single game, with the last player accomplishing the feat back in 2018.
  • Today's contest against Carleton marked the seventh meeting between the programs.
  • The Panthers and the Spartans played for the third time.
Middlebury is idle on Wednesday, before closing out THE Spring Games with a pair of contests on both Thursday and Friday.
