#4 Men’s Tennis Topped By Point Loma

The fourth-ranked Middlebury men's tennis team began its spring trip to California with a 5-2 loss against Point Loma Nazarene University on Saturday night. The match was played with a Division II scoring format.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Sea Lions took the first point of the night by claiming victories in the second and first spots of doubles action. The third doubles contest was unfinalized.
  • In singles, Point Loma earned points at #2 and #6 to increase the lead to 3-0.
  • Robby Ward claimed a straight-sets victory (6-4, 6-1) in the fourth slot to put Middlebury on the board (3-1).
  • The Sea Lions took a 4-1 lead following a triumph in the top spot.    
  • At #5, Julian Wu battled back from a one-set deficit to secure a comeback win (4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (5) and make it 4-2.
  • Point Loma closed the match with a tightly-contested three-set victory in the third slot to make the final score 5-2. 
NOTES
  • This was the first ever meeting between the two programs.
  • Wu improves to 14-2 on the year and has won 12-straight matches.
The Panthers will continue their spring trip with a match against #18 Pomona-Pitzer on Monday, March 20 at 7:00 p.m. eastern.
