Middlebury celebrates as Alex Sobel eclipses 1,000th career point mark earlier this year.

Alex Sobel has been named the D3hoops.com Player of the Year and was selected as both a National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and D3hoops.com All-American.

SOBEL'S HIGHLIGHTS
- Sobel becomes the first Panther in program history to earn player of the year honors and has been tabbed to the NABC All-American team for the first time in his career. Last year, Sobel was named to the D3hoops.com fourth team, moving up to the first team this season.Â
- The senior earned NABC First-Team All-District honors and D3hoops.com First-Team All-Region accolades for the second-consecutive year. The Panther was also named the NABC District 1 Player of the Year and the D3hoops.com Region 1 Most Outstanding Player.
- He became the first player in conference history to be selected as both the NESCAC Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year in the same season.Â
- The senior was the fourth Panther to earn the league's player of the year laurel and the program's fifth defensive player of the year. He also landed a spot among the All-NESCAC First-Team honorees for the second-straight year.
- Sobel had a phenomenal senior campaign for the Panthers on both ends of the floor, sprinkling his name throughout the Middlebury single-season and career record books.
- He was second in Division III this winter in total blocks (101) and blocks per game (3.88).Â
- The forward recorded at least one blocked shot in each of his last 51 games.
- Sobel also filled up the scoring column this winter, notably eclipsing the 1,000 career-point mark to become the 26th player in program history to surpass that plateau.
- He ended his career with 1,227 points, placing him 11th in Middlebury's record book
- The Panther led the NESCAC averaging 19.4 points per contest and scored 20 or more points in 11 games this season.Â
- He also tallied double-figure point totals in all 26 games this year and 36 straight.
- Sobel also sat atop the NESCAC ranks with 11.8 rebounds per contest. His 307 rebounds in 2022-23 ranked fourth in the single-season book.
- He finished his career third in program history with 814 boards.
- Sobel had 39 career double-doubles, ranking him ninth among active Division III players. He posted 17 of those this season, placing him 12th nationally.
- The forward led the team and ranked eighth in the NESCAC with 82 assists.
- Sobel was tabbed the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) Division III National Player of the Week twice and the NESCAC Player of the Week three times this season.
