#6 Women’s Tennis Downs Bates 8-1

The sixth-ranked Middlebury women's tennis team continued its winning ways on Sunday morning, downing Bates 8-1 to improve to 3-0.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Panthers took a 2-1 edge following the doubles portion of the match. Lulu Wu and Gena Huang tallied a 8-6 triumph in the second slot, while Amanda Frank and Anna Lardner defeated their opponents 8-5 at #3.
  • Bates claimed an 8-4 victory in the top spot to earn its lone point of the day.
  • Middlebury increased its advantage to 3-1 as Wu cruised to a straight-set victory (6-2, 6-2) in the second spot.
  • Lardner and Nathalie van der Reis extended the Panthers' lead to 5-1. Lardner eased to a 6-2, 6-2 triumph at the #5, while van der Reis clinched the match with a win in straight sets at #4 (6-3, 6-2).
  • In the sixth slot, Charlotte McCann secured a 6-2, 6-2 win, while Claudia Miller earned a hard-fought  6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (10-3) victory in the third slot to give Middlebury a 7-1 advantage. At #3, in lieu of the third set, they played a super tiebreaker, with Miller winning 10-3.
  • Amy Delman erased a one-set deficit to win (2-6, 6-3, 7-6(5) at #1 and closed out the 8-1 win for the Panthers.
NOTES
  • Middlebury opens with a 3-0 record for the fourth time in the last five seasons.
  • Wu, Miller, van der Reis and Delman each improved to 3-0 individually this spring.
