#4 Men’s Tennis Eases Past Bates 7-2

The fourth-ranked Middlebury men's tennis team bounced back on Sunday afternoon, claiming a 7-2 victory over Bates.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Panthers opened the match with two points in doubles action. Noah Laber and Aidan Harris claimed an 8-6 win in the top spot, while Neel Epstein and Robby Ward earned a 8-6 triumph in the second spot.
  • Bates claimed an 8-5 victory at #3 to earn its first point of the day.
  • Laber continued his winning ways, easing to a straight-sets win (6-1, 6-4) at the top of the lineup, while Zihao Yuan downed his opponent 7-5, 6-2 in the sixth spot to increase Middlebury's lead to 4-1. 
  • Julian Wu clinched the match for the Panthers, battling past his opponent 7-5, 7-6(6) to extend the Panther lead to 5-1.
  • The Bobcats scored a three-set win in the second slot to make the score 5-2.
  • At #3, Epstein rallied after dropping the first set to earn a 3-6, 6-3, 10-4 victory, while Ward defeated his opponent 6-2, 6-7(4), 10-4 at #4 to close out the 7-2 triumph.
NOTES
  • Middlebury and Bates squared off for the 36th time today. The Panthers lead the all-time series 30-5 and have won the last 23 contests.
  • Wu has won 11 consecutive matches for Middlebury and boasts a 13-2 career record.
  • Yuan recorded his 30th career victory in the win.
The Panthers will begin a four-match road stretch in California on March 18, when they take on Point Loma at 7:00 p.m. EST.
