#1 Women’s Lacrosse Cruises to 19-3 Victory over Connecticut College

The top-ranked Middlebury women's lacrosse team utilized a strong first quarter to rush out to an early lead and did not look back, cruising to a 19-3 victory over Connecticut College on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the hosts improve to 3-0 on the year, extending their winning streak to eight-straight contests.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Panthers dominated the opening quarter of play, tallying the first seven goals of the game over a span of 11:58. Jane Earley and Susan Rowley each contributed a pair of markers, while Emma Inouye, Caroline Messer and Kelcey Dion each added tallies.
  • The Camels responded with 2:43 to go in the first quarter as Kate Coughlin notched a low shot through traffic to make the score 7-1.
  • Middlebury ended the period by registering three more goals. Earley and Rowley each secured their hat tricks, before Sara Ellinghaus found the back of the net with one second remaining to give the Panthers a 10-1 lead after one quarter of action.
  • Just 24 seconds into the second frame, Connecticut College scored its second goal of the game. Julianna Ingrassia received a pass from Campbell Johnston and slipped her shot into the corner of the net.
  • Middlebury answered with four goals to close out the second quarter. At the 12:52 mark, Earley played provider for Rowley as she fired home her fourth marker of the day. With 9:36 to go, Dion increased the advantage to 10 (12-2) after taking a pass from Skylar Lach and beating multiple defenders.Back-to-back free position goals from Caroline Adams and Dion gave Middlebury a 14-2 lead heading into halftime.
  • With 4:08 elapsed in the third stanza, the Camels scored their third goal. Suzie Smith connected with Aine Downey who was able to find nylon with an extra player.
  • Jamee Numan closed the stanza by tallying two unanswered goals to extend the Panther advantage to 16-3.
  • In the final quarter, Numan managed to complete her hat trick with 9:14 remaining, while Lach and Burdine Atherton each scored their initial goals of the season to round out a 19-3 triumph.
NOTES
  • Four players recorded their first goals of the year in today's victory. 
  • Numan's hat trick was the second of her career.
  • With three goals and three assists today, Earley has now tallied at least one point in 34 of the last 35 games she has played.
  • Middlebury has now won 31 of the 32 meetings against Connecticut College, including the last 27 contests.
