The seventh-ranked Middlebury women's hockey team came from behind twice to edge #8 Norwich 3-2 in an overtime thriller. Panther
Britt Nawrocki tallied the golden goal with 1:30 left on the clock, giving her a team-leading 12 markers and five game-winners.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Middlebury nearly scored with 3:55 expired in the opening stanza. Nawrocki grabbed the puck off the faceoff and stunned goalie Leocadia Clark, hitting the netminder in the helmet with the quick shot. The rebound fluttered back into traffic, where Jenna Letterie attempted to poke the puck into the goal, but the chance was thwarted.
- Raia Schluter looked to get the Panthers on the board with 9:46 gone in the period. Schluter rifled the puck from the right dot on goal, but Clark stretched her leg and just tipped the puck out of danger.
- The Cadets had a good chance to score with 12:24 elapsed, but Emma Morel's bid from just inside the blueline was snared by a glove save from goalie Sophia Will.
- Norwich's best attempt of the stanza came with 2:46 left to play. Emma O'Neill dropped the puck from the goal line back to the slot, but Taylor Girouard's one-timer sailed up and over the crossbar.
- The Cadets broke through with 13:15 left in the middle frame. An initial shot by Amie Headland was blocked by Ashley McDonald, but the rebound trickled back to Headland who lofted her shot into the upper-right corner of the goal for the 1-0 edge.
- Norwich looked to add to its lead with 11:33 left when Carly Gout attempted to score through the five-hole on a one-timer from the doorstep, but Will smothered the chance.
- The Panthers charged out of the defensive zone and nearly knotted the contest less than a minute later. Letterie and Nawrocki had a nice give-and-go, but Nawrocki's bid was denied by Clark.
- With three minutes to go in the period, Middlebury turned up the heat, sending a flurry of shots on goal. Letterie had the best chance to score during the span, but her shot hit Clark in the helmet and Clark was able to cover up the rebound to deny another chance.
- The Panthers had a final opportunity to level the score with just under one minute remaining. Kylie Quinlan sent a cross-ice pass to Zoe Pincelli, but Pincelli's one-timer was turned away with a nifty stick save by Clark.
- Middlebury tallied the equalizer just 43 seconds into the third stanza. Letterie dug out the puck in the left pocket and sent a pass to Cat Appleyard on the edge of the faceoff circle. Appleyard carried the puck into the slot, slipping the puck through the five-hole to make it 1-1.
- The Cadets responded with 8:28 left on the clock when Ann-Frederique Guay one-timed a feed by Girouard, sneaking the puck inside the right pipe for the 2-1 edge.
- With just under two minutes remaining in regulation, the Panthers knotted the game 2-2. Schluter rifled a shot from the top of the right faceoff circle that trickled through a pair of Norwich defenders and eluded netminder Clark, sending the contest into overtime.
- Norwich nearly won the game just 25 seconds into the extra session. Guay made a move past a defender, but Will made a sprawling save to deny the point-blank bid. Headland fired the rebound back toward the net, but Vira came up with a block and cleared the puck out of danger.
- With 2:46 left in the session, the Cadets earned the game's only penalty, giving Middlebury a four-on-three situation. The Panthers capitalized on the opportunity, as Nawrocki and Letterie skated two-on-one into the offensive zone, before Nawrocki went bar down for the 3-2 win.

- Nawrocki has tallied a point in 11 of the last 12 games and leads the NESCAC with five game-winners.
- Will made 22 stops during the victory.
- Middlebury and Norwich met for the 16th time in a series where the Panthers remain unbeaten since the 2017-18 season (3-0-2) with three of those games going to overtime.
