#7 Women’s Hockey Skates To 1-1 Draw With Williams On Senior Night

The seventh-ranked Middlebury women's hockey team overcame an early deficit, before ultimately skating to a 1-1 draw with Williams on Senior Night.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The hosts had a good chance to open the scoring with 3:11 elapsed, but Inga Van Wieren's shot from the doorstep was turned away by Williams' goalie Erin Pye.
  • Late in the 17th minute, the Panthers had back-to-back quality attempts. An initial shot by Van Wieren was thwarted by Pye as the rebound fell to the stick of Raia Schluter. Schluter fired the one-timer on goal, but Pye sprawled out to deny the chance.
  • The Ephs broke through with 28 seconds left in the initial stanza. Claire DeVries sent a pass along the right boards that Maddie Tix beat a defender to grab, before flipping the puck into the upper-right corner for the 1-0 edge.
  • With 52 ticks off the clock in the middle frame, Williams threatened to double its lead. Ellia Chiang set up a give-and-go with Robin Kitazono, but Middlebury netminder Sophia Will made a sprawling save on Kitazono's bid to keep the difference at one.
  • The Panthers had a great opportunity to tie the contest with 12:40 expired. Eva Hendrikson picked off an Eph pass in the neutral zone and sent the puck to Jenna Letterie who set up a tic-tac-toe with Britt Nawrocki, but Nawrocki's chance was denied by Pye.
  • Middlebury's best chance to score came with just over five minutes remaining. Avery McInerny tipped an initial blast by Sabrina Kim which looked to go over the goal line, but Pye turned around and dove on the loose puck.
  • Midway through the third frame, the Panthers had a flurry of quality chances. An initial shot by Cece Ziegler was turned away by a pad save from Pye, before back-to-back bids from point-blank range by Schluter were also thwarted.
  • Middlebury continued pressure and found the equalizer at the 13:13 mark on a power play. An initial blast from the left dot by Letterie was blocked by a blueliner, but Cat Appleyard was there to one-time the rebound into the goal to make it 1-1.
  • Letterie had an outstanding attempt, looking to give the Panthers the lead with 4:49 to go. The forward broke out of the defensive zone and skated one-on-one toward the goalie, but her shorthanded chance was just tipped away by Pye's stick.
  • Middlebury dominated the overtime stanza, with the best chance for the golden goal coming just eight seconds into the frame. Letterie grabbed the puck off the opening faceoff and raced toward the goal, but her bid pinged off the crossbar.
  • The Panthers had a final chance to win the contest with 2:10 left when Ashley McDonald redirected a pass by Kim, but the chance skirted just wide of the goal as the teams ended in a 1-1 tie.
