Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

#8 Women’s Hockey Blanks Wesleyan 5-0

The eighth-ranked Middlebury women's ice hockey team tallied goals in each of the three periods en route to a 5-0 shutout over Wesleyan. With the victory, the Panthers complete the weekend sweep over the Cardinals.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Middlebury started a power play with 8:23 expired in the first period, but despite not letting the puck out of the offensive zone for over a minute and a half, Wesleyan was able to kill the penalty.
  • Less than a minute later, Jenna Letterie had a great chance to score while rushing into the zone, but her bid from the top of the right faceoff circle was thwarted by a great stick save by Cardinal netminder Rei Halloran.
  • The Panthers broke through with just under five minutes remaining in the opening stanza. Raia Schluter carried the puck down the right boards, pulled back and sent a cross-ice pass toward the left dot. Letterie came barreling into the zone off a fresh line change and one-timed the puck into the net for the 1-0 edge.
  • Middlebury made it 2-0 with 10:57 elapsed in the middle frame when Letterie redirected an initial bid by Claudia Vira for her second goal of the game.
  • Wesleyan looked to cut the lead in half three minutes later, but Mairead Kennedy's attempt was denied by a blocker save from Panther goalie Sophia Will.
  • With just over five minutes left in the second period, Middlebury struck again. Eva Hendrikson sent a pass to Avery McInerny in the slot, before McInerny spun around and slipped the puck past Halloran for the 3-0 advantage.
  • The Panthers cashed in on a short-handed tally with 6:58 gone in the final frame. An initial shot by Sabrina Kim was denied by Halloran, but Jordan Hower one-timed the rebound into the back of the net to make it 4-0.
  • Middlebury capped the scoring frenzy with 4:08 left in the fourth period during a power play. A slap shot by Vira was turned away by Halloran, but Maddie Bayard gathered the loose puck and slipped it into the goal for the 5-0 triumph.
