Men’s Hockey Edged By Trinity In OT

The Middlebury men's hockey team was edged in overtime at Trinity by a 2-1 score on Saturday. The Bantams tallied the game-winning goal 39 seconds into the extra period to earn the victory.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • In a fast-moving first period, Trinity had a quality scoring chance just under six minutes into play when a rising shot by Eamon Doheny was saved by Panther goalie Jake Horoho.
  • Middlebury produced its best opportunity of the initial stanza following a faceoff win, but a turnaround shot by Jin Lee from the right circle was saved by Bantam netminder Devon Bobak.
  • Following a penalty kill, the visitors had their own advantage at the end of the period, but a slap shot from the right point by Ryan Pineault in the final seconds was saved by Bobak.
  • Trinity manufactured a good chance with 9:18 expired in the second period, as a driving shot by Paul Selleck was saved by Horoho pushing to his right.
  • The Panthers best opportunity came with 3:14 left following a Bantam turnover, as Drew Malatesta's back-handed bid on a two-on-one was saved by Bobak. 
  • The Bantams took the lead just over a minute later when Gerard Marretta gathered the loose puck on the blueline and fired a wrister that Jake Horoho saved. The rebound came to Paul Selleck on the doorstep, who jammed the puck into the net for the 1-0 edge.
  • Trinity applied pressure late in the period, but a shot by John Campomenosi pinged off the crossbar with 29 seconds left.
  • The Panthers nearly tied the game late in the stanza, but a laser by Andrej Hromic from the left point was stopped by Bobak to keep it a 1-0 game.
  • Middlebury knotted the contest 3:10 into the third period when Matt Myers shoveled in a rebound on the left side.
  • The Bantams applied pressure, looking for the go-ahead goal but Horoho made a pair of big saves. The best stop came while the hosts were shorthanded on a two-on-one break, as the Panther goalie pushed to his right and denied Casey Rhodes' bid.
  • Trinity nearly won the game in the final seconds, but Horoho thwarted Kyle Tomaso's shot from the left side with 11.9 ticks left to send the game to overtime.
  • Skating three-on-three in the extra session, the Bantams scored 39 seconds in when Jax Murray skated between the circles and ripped a shot over the shoulder of Horoho for the 2-1 final score.  
NOTES
  • The goal was Myers' second of the season.
  • Saturday's contest was the 48th meeting between the two teams, with the Bantams holding a narrow 24-20-4 edge.
