Pastor’s Last-Second Goal Lifts Men’s Hockey Past Williams

Bret Pastor scored the game-winning goal with 0.1 seconds left, lifting the Middlebury men's hockey team to a 3-2 victory Friday at Williams. The two teams return to the ice on Saturday in Kenyon Arena for a 7:00 p.m. faceoff.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Ephs scored on the power play 10:18 into the first period. Jonah Gold ripped a shot from the right faceoff dot that tucked inside the post past Panther goalie Jake Horoho for the 1-0 lead.
  • The Panthers knotted the score (1-1) with 1:02 left in the second period. Zach Whitehead wristed a shot from between the circles that nestled inside the left post.
  • Williams took a 2-1 lead 3:31 into the third period when Faisal Al-Saif collected a loose puck and shoveled it past a sprawling Horoho.
  • The Panthers tied the contest (2-2) with 7:25 expired. Nolan Moore skated onto a bouncing puck outside the crease, and lifted a backhanded attempt into the right side of the net.
  • The Ephs had a quality chance with 1:23 left as Gold tried to stuff a shot from the right side past Horoho, but the Middlebury netminder smothered the puck.
  • Pastor's game-winning goal came as he received a pass from Paddy Bogart on the left circle. Pastor fired the puck through traffic and the puck slipped between Michael Fairfax's legs and tickled the net for his first goal of the season to give Middlebury the 3-2 victory.
NOTES
  • Pastor's goal marks the 15th different Panther to score this season.
  • Moore's goal was his team-leading seventh this winter.
  • Jin Lee, who ranks among the NESCAC leaders in faceoff percentage, won 13-18 on Friday evening.
  • The contest marked the 139th time the two programs have played in the all-time series that dates back to the 1928-29 season. Middlebury holds an 80-48-11 advantage.
