Middlebury Drops Decision To Williams

The Middlebury men's hockey team fell 5-1 to Williams on Saturday evening in Chip Kenyon '85 Arena. The two teams split the home-and-home series after the Panthers tallied a thrilling 3-2 last-second victory in Massachusetts on Friday.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Five minutes into the opening period, Middlebury produced a quality scoring chance. Paddy Bogart laced a bid from between the circles that was saved by Williams' goalie Evan Ruschil.
  • The Ephs struck first at the 9:57 mark when Will Berg wristed a shot from the right side over the shoulder of Panther netminder Jake Horoho.
  • Middlebury nearly tied the contest with 3:15 left while shorthanded, as Andrej Hromic outskated the Williams defense, but his wrist shot was saved by Ruschil.
  • The Panthers knotted the contest (1-1) 4:28 into the second stanza. Chris Garbe gathered the puck along the right boards, blasting a shot that tucked inside the left post.
  • The visitors manufactured a good chance with 13:42 expired, but Mac Carso's shot from between the circles was saved by a sprawling Horoho.
  • Williams grabbed the lead just over a minute later as Nicholas Rashkovsky deked a Panther defender before shoveling a shot into the right side at 14:58.
  • Middlebury looked for the equalizer in the first minute of the third period as Billy Dobensky skated into the offensive zone with a head of steam, but his bid on the doorstep was stopped by the right pad of Ruschil.
  • Williams increased its advantage to 3-1 at the 4:29 mark. Jared Lambright sent a lengthy pass from his defensive zone to the stick of Jacob Monroe at the Middlebury blueline. Monroe skated in and lifted a shot over the blocker of Horoho.
  • The Ephs added two goals just 25 seconds apart by Jack Sabre and Ziv Deener-Chodirker for the final 5-1 score.
NOTES
  • The goal was Garbe's fourth of the season, while Antoine Belisle tallied his sixth assist.
  • The contest marked the 140th time the two programs have played in the all-time series that dates back to the 1928-29 season. Middlebury holds an 80-49-11 advantage.
The Panthers wrap up the regular-season next weekend with home games against Hamilton and Amherst.
